Celebrating 60 years of the Escuela Marista (Guatemala)

This year, 2025, the Escuela Marista (Guatemala) commemorates six decades of dedication, learning and change in the community of Chinautla, Guatemala. Since its foundation in 1965, it has been a symbol of hope, a space for growth and a pillar for those seeking a transformative education guided by the values of Saint Marcellin Champagnat.

In a context marked by inequality, the Marist school was established as a courageous and supportive response to attend to the most disadvantaged. The first students learnt under the shade of trees, in humble conditions, but with a firm desire to improve themselves.

Over the years, thousands of children and young people have passed through its classrooms, receiving not only knowledge but also principles that have guided their paths. More than 3,100 students have graduated from this institution, ready to face the challenges of the world with determination and hope.

Purposeful innovation

The Marist school has been able to evolve and lead significant advances in the region. From the inclusion of girls in 1993 to the implementation of technical programmes and the creation of the baccalaureate in science and arts with a focus on computing, each step has been designed to empower students and offer them practical tools for a promising future.

The school currently caters for over a thousand pupils, offering nutrition programmes, affordable fees and scholarships. In a safe and caring environment, students receive a comprehensive education that fosters solidarity, simplicity and fraternity.

Projecting an inspiring future

This anniversary is not only an occasion to remember the past, but also to project a future full of possibilities. The social work of the Marist school transcends academic achievement, leaving a positive mark on the community and generating a lasting impact. Each child and young person who receives this education carries with them the capacity to build a more equitable and united world.

We extend an invitation for everyone to be part of this special celebration. Join us in looking beyond, in imagining a society where education is an engine of change and a tool for achieving justice.

We enthusiastically commemorate these 60 years and renew our commitment to continue making a difference!
